Snails Pace

Emma

Innocent
How come the snails in my yard don't look like this? I guess mine are just plain brown slugs and have no outside beauty at all, but do have an insatiable appetite and leave nothing behind. Some one told me that beer will get rid of them as they love it and will crawl into the container and drown. Sounded good to me, and as I told you on one of my earlier blogs, I put out a couple of saucers with beer only to have Emma drink them all up . . . so much for doing away with snails . . . Emma, Pat's beautiful golden retriever has taste buds that are unaccountable. So far she has chewed the bamboo stakes around the apple tree and eaten all the new branches. She nibbled the corner of the new coffee table and that went over like an inflated balloon. Her latest accomplishment seems to be trying to fly as she takes off after a bright yellow Frisbee. She has grown into a very big but beautiful dog and we are waiting patiently for her to mature. Her 'teen' years are testing our patience but we are sure she is going to be a 'real lady' one of these years.

Pat and I are enjoying having John home for a quick visit. He has made short work of the honey-do list, and we made short work of the delectable steaks he bought and cooked up for us on the grill last evening. I think Pat is the queen of salads as she puts one together that sharpen the taste buds. John told us a lot about the contract he is working on and we are more aware of what he does do for a living. It all sounds very complicated and there is a lot of travel connected with it. He just spent a week of meetings in Houston where it was hot and muggy so he enjoyed the fog that rolled in yesterday and the short walk we took by the ocean. There were so many people out and about celebrating Labor Day. The traffic was heavy and I heard the Salmon Derby was quite successful with hundred of boats out bobbing around a calm ocean trying to catch the illusive salmon. Twenty-four were caught, not very many so far. I don't know how big the winner was. The colorful cars of different makes and sizes were on display over at the Casino lot and hundreds of people milling around. There was a small yellow car that looked like an old roadster, only baby size, and a few light sky blue ones that cost a fortune to keep up. I had my camera but we didn't stop long enough to get pictures. It was just too crowded. I wanted to show John the new hotel that is going up so fast. You have to give the construction crews a lot of credit for putting up a building, almost like a jig saw puzzle, as they lift pre-built sections into place. The design is in tune with the rest of the casino buildings and I can well imagine the decorations are ready and set to go.

So today, Sunday already, make the best of it as you will be back with your nose to the grindstone soon enough. We are going to the Nautilus to celebrate John's June birthday, a promise is a promise, and the scallops which are huge and delicate, are served on a bed of fried spinach and angel hair pasta, the best in town. My taste buds are 'at the ready' and I haven't even had my coffee yet. I am always a little sad you can't join us as it would be such fun to share some time with you. So be good to you today and plan to do something you have been putting off for awhile. The new "Nanny McFee" movie is out and that should be a fun one. Enjoy today. Hugs to all.
