A young lady blogger of Michigan took this picture showing the brilliant colors of Fall. She did a great job and I hope she doesn't mind my 'borrowing' her picture to enjoy the fall colors. I miss New England and the Fall. I even miss the heavy snows of yesteryear but then there are a lot of things missed when you get to this stage of life's game. Nothing stands still, especially time. My friends, who are close in age, write about how much they miss different events, or a style that they were content with, but most of all the people who were once a part of their daily life. The older you get the harder it is to make new friends and that shouldn't be, but most have a clique of their own and are content and not open to new faces or places. Not me . . . I've reached out to try and make some new friends and keep the old ones too but I find it is far more difficult than I imagined . . . people get set in their ways and close the door quickly and there I stand with an open door, the coffee pot on and ready with a hug or two. Recently I was invited to a birthday lunch, but the event was cancelled due to illness, days went by and the luncheon was cancelled several times when I received notice that "you really do not have to come to lunch" . . . I am sure it was not meant as a put down but actually frustration due to the changes and having to make new plans . . . yet, it seemed odd and strange to be 'uninvited'. It is fine as I think I put the proper perspective into the frustration of the hostess but I was left with a feeling of being let down and reluctant to trust the budding friendship. Oh well, it takes all kinds of people to make our world go around and I will have to read my old blog about 'expectations' . . . our worst enemy.
So today, try and think before you speak so you do not mistakenly crush someone with an unkind word or deed. Put a smile on your face and stick your hand out and make a new friend, it can't hurt and you may find a new 'pal' to share time with . . . and if you are lucky enough to have some good old friends, remember there is a saying about their being 'gold'. Wish I could remember it. So old friends, thank you for loving me, and new friends, open up and you may find reasons to smile. Hugs to all.
