Mid September

A Winter Sky
Morning light has come
bringing calmness to the day
a cloud of misty blue
turning shades of gray
This palette of the winter sky
spreads far and wide across the sea
exchanging colors from deep green
adding a band of orange glow
as the sun rising in the east
performs a morning show
Nature is astounding
as anyone can tell
just walk out of a morning
and let it cast its spell
Coming back through the back roads of Gold Beach yesterday there were only a few trees showing the change of color, a little gold, some amber and a lot of soft yellow peeking out of a forest of dark green trees. There was no place to stop to take a picture to remind us that this is the season of preparation. The gardens need tending now as the flowers fade and the bushes that grew so tall need to be trimmed back to rest the root for another show next spring. Bulbs to be planted and lots of raking to be done, and don't forget to get the shovels out closer to the door before the winter snow. When I lived in Nevada I thought that living in a sheltered patio with a storage place for garden tools I would never have to worry about getting to them. There was a couple of feet of space between the roof and the doorway to the storage area so when the first big snow storm arrived, I found the snow piled up in front of the door where the snow shovel was and had to sweep my way to get to it. Live and learn is the motto.
I guess the change in weather has me thinking winter and I haven't even lived through this fall. I'm not really in a hurry as the time goes by faster than I like, but we are due for several days of rain and I know we need it, but it also heralds the start of the rainy season . . . but . . . this year it seems to be arriving much too soon. I'm not ready for the holidays that come to mind and after a trip to a mall where the stores are touting holiday 'stuff', all imported from 'where-ever' with designs and colors in clothing that resemble 'a mad cow's disease', when all I want is a 'thin' sweater of quality to keep me warm in the rainy months ahead. Um . . . I'm thinking . . . I have a daughter who does some wonderful things with yarn. I'll have to find out how busy she is and if she would like to take on an extra large project for the fall months. I have a beautiful shawl she knitted for me that stays over my chair for the winter months and keeps me very warm. That reminds me, I used to knit. I taught myself and leaned to knit one, pearl one, and thought you did that one at a time, not a row at a time, so you know I had a sweater that stretched long before its time.
So today, if you find a store that has 'thin' sweaters, let me know where. It is hump day and you are on your way to another weekend, so finish up all your tasks and get ready to 'dance' in the rain. Make your today warm and fuzzy, eat chocolate and smile. Hugs to all.
