Collections

There is nothing like a good game of scrabble to make the mind stretch, and if you have a problem finding a word all you have to do is serve tea or coffee in the scrabble mugs, . . . a gift from my daughter Pat who comes over to give me a game or two and walks off with the highest score. It is like having a cheat sheet, or it could be if you had the letters on your board to make a word written on the mugs. With my luck I have either all vowels or all consonants which makes for a long game. Once in a while the mix is just right and it is good to come up with words with more than three or four tiles. Of course it helps your score if you can put the highest tile in the right block or use all of them at one time; a feat I haven't accomplished much lately as Pat walked off with over four hundred points last game.

This is where we play scrabble and where the jig saw puzzles find a home for weeks at a time. The table cloth was woven by a friend who has a huge loom in her living room. She does some beautiful pieces and I was lucky to find this lovely set. Daughter Chris gave me the candles which are in a special holder with tree like leaves that are made of glass and reflect the candle light. The black vases are yard sale items and the glass flowers came from Japan. I always forget to put the napkins on the table so finally found a way of fitting them inside the vase. It works as no one as had to ask me for a napkin since I came up with this idea. The little bunny was a gift from Paula when she was here on her last visit. There is a whole family of ceramic animals out there that are really cute and make for a good collection . . . of course I am not collecting but when you see a yard sale sign . . . well . . . how can you say no to collectible items.

Here is an example, vases, beautiful glass and shapes of all kinds. I didn't start out collecting anything but I seemed to have an eye for beauty and each vase has shape and color that reflects in the window light. I have milk glass on the top of a beautiful cabinet that is of solid maple and it houses a collection of figurines similar to those on this credenza, but more of the early American style. I have wrapped some up to sell at our next yard sale, only to stop and find one I can't leave behind. I have to start adopting that attitude of exchanging . . . one of the older pieces has to go before I can add a new piece. There just isn't enough room for everything I think is beautiful.
So today, Tuesday, now that has a good ring to it. What to do today? My own honey do list has to be tackled and watering must be done and I suppose I had better get out that feather duster and tackle all those beautiful pieces, and of course the books need to be treated royally, only it takes so much longer as I have to open them up and read a line or two. Maybe we should just think about what we want to do today and do it. I'm for a walk on the beach. Meet me there!!!! Hugs to all.
