Lavender and Peacocks

The color of lavender growing in green fields is awesome as the different shades vie for attention, and each lavender farm has something different to offer from ice cream to wine and a multitude of lotions and cremes as well as ceramics and even cookies. Sequim, Washington is the lavender capitol of the world with a feeling all its own. A beautiful area with homes on large lots, even acres, bringing back the feel of the country side farm type living before the World War II housing boom of crowding as many homes in an acre or two . . . ah, the 'boonies'.
We have no idea what Pat did to ruffle the peacock but he spread his feathers and she got a picture. All I got was him strutting around looking like the 'stud' he is while his poor old mate looked like something dragged in from a hard night. I wonder why he got all the beauty and she got none of it.
We made our way through the pathways and out into the fields taking pictures as we went. The lavender has a wonderful smell, all its own, and in each of the gift shops there are bundles of it wrapped and ready to take home. We stopped off at one farm that houses a huge restaurant with tables inside and out. The weather was perfect but the outside tables were crowded so we opted for the cool inside. They had a terrific menu and we all had something different and enjoyed the taste of lavender in our salad dressing. Christine had a three 'pot' dish with hot crusty bread and the dips were so good. I had a bowl of French onion soup baked with the bread and cheese in it, and a lovely salad. Erin opted for fish and chips that were excellent and Pat had a salad too. Erin and Pat said the lemon lavender ice cream was very good.
We rode around the area and found our way to the ocean and the Dungenous Light House. There is a dirt road leading into the light house that must be a half mile long but we didn't walk it, just stood and took a picture which didn't come out as the light house was too far out. It would have been fun to see the light house close up but we were running out of time as the day sped by and we had a long ride back to Port Orchard and the yard sale that was waiting for our attention.
It was hard to choose what pictures to show you as there are so many of the lavender fields. One farm had a field of wild flowers that offset the lavender shades with bachelor buttons, buttercups and thistles as well as dozens of weed type flowers I have no idea of the names. There were honeysuckle vines and poppy type flowers growing tall and beautiful. Some of the trees were like maroon fluff and I have no idea what it was, but it was one of the most beautiful trees I have ever seen. It was a special day and a memory builder, one spent with my daughters and granddaughter and we enjoyed every minute of it.
So today, think about sharing time with your loved ones and if you can get to Sequim, don't hesitate as it is well worth a visit. Washington is a beautiful state and the lavender farms are like icing on a cake. Make your day a good one. Hugs to all.
