Day Two - Port Orchard

Day two, July 27th , we started with the free breakfast at the hotel. We walked into the dining area to find we were fifteen minutes early so we picked up a free paper and scanned the headlines while we waited for our host to put out the breakfast food, not a bad spread as there was waffles, cereals, bagels, raisin toast, apples and oranges and plenty of coffee so we left feeling we had our moneys worth . . . smile! It was great to arrive in Astoria and see the huge bridge which we would be riding over to leave Oregon and find ourselves in Washington State with only a few hours more to get to our destination. The bridge is awesome and spans the huge Columbia river. The roads up to Port Orchard are two lane country roads that seem endless as we wondered 'are we there yet', as it seemed as though each turn led to miles and miles of green forest lands. Soon we began to see familiar sights as we neared Port Orchard and soon found ourselves climbing the two hills to Christine's home. Christine had a new railing put in for me so I could get in and out of the front steps with its two stairways. It was a big help and I used it many times.
The first thing I noticed was the tree in the back yard which had been cut back and there are bird feeders nailed on top of the cut branches. They look so cute and are in use as the birds nest in the big leafy hedges between the properties. There are two stands with pegs where you can put some corn husks and the squirrel comes and feeds. It is something to watch it as it nibbles the corn then takes it to the ground and buries the kernels and goes back for more. Soon you are looking at two ears of corn completely free of its kernels. Christine will have to move her little table and chair set though as the bird turd droplets do nothing for the beauty of the cushions.
Keriwick is a lovely fifteen year old black and white cat who loves to be petted and knew we were there just for his pleasure. Who could resist those eyes? Wish I had thought to take his picture as he really is a beautiful cat.
We didn't spend a lot of time resting on our laurels as there was work to be done, a yard sale to set up, so we went to work. As you can see in the pictures, there was a lot of good buys. The yard sale folks of Port Orchard are nothing like the folks of Brookings. Our folks are waiting at the edge of the property ready to forge ahead, but the folks in Port Orchard saunter in slowly, look things over and walk away, nothing for nothing. . . well . . . but there were lots of buyers and the tables became lighter as the day went on. Christine had a few pieces left over to donate to her charity and the rest went to Good Will and she now has a clean garage which I am sure she will fill up all over again, although she said she would not, yard sales are not her cup of tea.
To prepare for the upcoming busy days ahead we went for a days outing to a town called Sequim which is a good sixty miles or better away from Port Orchard. It was a long ride but well worth it and the weather was perfect. Tune in tomorrow and I'll tell you all about it.
Meanwhile, I missed doing my daily blog and wondered how all of you were doing. I hoped you were enjoying life and having reasons to smile. I did have access to lap top computers with those little boxes that you put you finger on and tap but in my case it is banging and almost throwing the lap top out the window as the little area and my fingers do not mesh . . . of course if my instructor had told me I had to use two fingers to move the screen up or down and that one finger push down is much better than light tapping I might have gotten some good use out of the computer, but it was just as well as frustration is not one of my favorite qualities as it shows up my impatience and a vocabulary not often heard . . . um. . . I'm better at some words than I thought. Make today a good one, it's so nice to be back in good company. Hugs to all.
