Birthdays and Realities

These pictures were taken at the Port de Grave, Newfoundland. The next time you have a crab feast think of the men who go out to sea and set the traps for them. How they would find a crab pot in these seas would be nothing short of a small miracle. I cannot imagine being out there fighting to keep afloat as the next huge wave came crashing down. I was on a cruise ship many years ago and we were suppose to have a stop in Sitka but the ocean was wild and we had to stay on board. People were so seasick they actually took on the color of the sea. It was a huge relief to sail into calm seas and finish the trip with good memories. Come to think of it, I don't think I ever ventured on a cruise ship again.
We don't have a crab feast very often as they are costly, but now I have a good idea why. I know they were not crabbing during such a storm but I know the fishermen go out to sea every day and take their lives in their hands. They have to love what they do, as for me, I'm only comfortable wading at the edge of a baby pool.
AND NOW FOR THE BIRTHDAY BASH.

It is hard to believe that our cartoon friends are sixty years older or better and someone came up with a few cartoons to celebrate them. Batman and Robin have never looked like this in any of the movies I've ever seen.

Old Tweety Bird looks very unhappy and at his age he should. It isn't any fun to have your wings clipped.

I have often wondered about those fairy tales that end with 'happy ever after'; someone finally had the nerve to show life as it is and not as we imagine it. Of course this prince could relax as he had the money, but the men in our lives had to go out and earn a living to feed all those little faces. . . but then they did feel like they earned their rest time and made good use of it.

The caption on this one was "and they wait for the statue of Obama to be finished." I once painted a pigeon on a saints head in a beautiful flower garden of an old mission in California . . . um . . . wonder what I was thinking!
So today, take out your funny bone and shine it up and have a laugh or two. Don't be too serious as time flies and there are too many events to bring out a chuckle or two. Know it is hump day and your weekend is coming up with hours to wile away doing what you love to do best . . . rest and relax, well yeah, after the chores are caught up . . . ah life, what would we do without it? Make today a candle day and light one for all those fishermen who take to the seas, and treat yourself to a latte or two. Hugs to all.
