Crows Nest

Thanks to my daughter Pat, I can show you pictures of the Art Festival taken at the Port. As you can see there are many tents to house the art folks who have to bring in their wares and then set up for two full days. It is a lot of work but they love it and we love being able to walk around and meet them all and enjoy the beautiful art pieces.

The Band Stand where the piped in music kept feet tapping and hips swaying.

I'm not sure if this is a cypress tree or not but it grows tall and lop sided in the empty field right behind my picket fence. The crows seem to love it and the gophers think it is paradise. The low clouds are from the mill which spews small dust particles, day and night , although we are told the stacks do not emit anything that would harm us. I guess that is why we are always sneezing and coughing but plywood is a necessary item and they do make a lot of it right here at the mill.
Pat picked me up and we drove over to watch the venders set up. The weather was just right and no wind, at least not early this morning. Wind can be a big problem especially for those who work with ceramics and have the pieces packed on shelves. There were three hundred vendors and each one had something different to sell. It is always such a treat to walk around and look at the different displays of photographs, oil and water color paintings, and the different jewelry booths. This year there was a lady who cuts stone and she had some really different ones I had never seen before. They make up into lovely necklaces. Another had done away with the cabochon and went into high quality stones. There was one brilliant red one, not a ruby, that was an eye catcher and several with multi color blues that made interesting patterns set in silver. The tea pot chimes were back just as expensive as last year when they introduced us to old pots with spoons and forks and knives dangling from them.

This year there were two young folks showing their expertise in cutting thin multi color copper made into window art. They had some mermaids, whales and pelicans, along with dogs and cats and lizards. They were a bit expensive at twenty dollars a piece. I always love to visit the artists who make interesting pieces out of trees and the bowls are really exceptional, you can only imagine the work entailed. I stopped at one booth and saw a table runner and matching napkins with lots of sea creatures and thought Pat might like it for her table. I picked up two napkins, tied together, to find a ten dollar price tag, for two napkins and the runner....twenty three dollars. There was not even a fancy stitch around them. I bet they packed them back at the end of the day.

All in all there was much to see and enjoy and I did find 'an illusion' necklace for my granddaughter for her next birthday. It is amber and the beads seem to float in the air, she will be tickled as it is quite 'funky'. The piped in music was wonderful, all kinds of good music to make you want to dance. I watched as the different people couldn't stand still but 'shook their booty' and danced around. It was fun to see and made me laugh out loud. A good crowd on a cool summer day having a good time as they strolled about looking for treasures and eating Slugs and Stone ice cream, or The Hungry Clam fish and chips. Some of the local ladies had a couple of picnic tables set up with things for children to do. When I looked they were digging into buckets of beads and were busy putting their imaginations to work. The second table had paints and crayons and hand paint and I had to smile as one grandmother walked out with a big painting of bright colors for her refrigerator door. Some things never change and that is a good thing.

So today, I hope there is not a lot of change for you to deal with. I hope that you are enjoying your Sunday and relaxing before the new work week begins. Make your today special, just like you. Hugs to all.
