New Faces

Some one is playing with the vegetables and fruits again. I've heard of carving a pumpkin but a watermelon? It does have possibilities as it looks a bit more frightening than a big orange pumpkin. A reminder, Halloween is just around the corner . . . how can I tell? . . . Well, there are huge barrels and shelves of candy packets of all sizes and shapes, delicious little tidbits to make any little spook 'open wide'.

This one is bread, how clever. It just goes to show what you can do if you have a coin in your hand. I was wishing that was a dime so I could have said 'time' and felt really clever.

This is Emma, ten months old and still growing. She's a love and a handful as she is so exuberant in her need to greet you. She loves to eat, swim, fetch and most of all roll over and let you scratch her belly. She would love to meet the Emma you are about to meet and have her for a playmate.

Grandma Katie was bragging when she sent me a picture of Emma and her catch of the day. Look at the size of that fish, a five pound big mouth bass that had been swimming in Johnson's pond in Coventry, Rhode Island. I have to show it to all the local fishermen around here who have been bragging about the one that got away, you know the minnow that went floating by. I think they should go and visit Emma so she can show them the right way to bait their hook and reel in a beauty like this one. I hope Emma loves to eat fish as well as catch them. Maybe she will write and tell me. It is no wonder her grandmother is so proud of her . . . what a cutie!

So today, my calendar says 'the war on terrorism began - 2001' , sad it doesn't say that it has ended. Thursday is as good as any to start the finishing up of the weeks business, after all tomorrow is TGIF and I can see the smile on your face. I have a new neighbor who came over to visit last evening and brought hot homemade Irish soda bread with her. I always thought it was the other way around, that we greeted the new folks with some home baked goodies. I think I like her version better. The soda bread was delicious, the tea hot and the conversation flowed . . . a great way to spend an evening. So if you have a new neighbor, don't be shy, open your door and put your tea pot on. Hugs to all.
